About Fiona Hamann

I'm a painter based in Kurrajong in the Hawkesbury region of NSW. Working mostly in oils and acrylics, with the odd watercolour, I create original paintings exploring light, colour, form and character - from Australian birds (magpies, galahs and ibis are favourites) and chooks to still life, botanicals, landscapes and figurative work.

I love how changing light reveals texture and atmosphere, and I'm always drawn to those quieter moments when it transforms an everyday subject.

Mostly self-taught, I've built on that through study at Sydney Art School and two short courses at the National Art School. In 2026 I started exhibiting more widely - five shows at Aspire Gallery in Brisbane (Little Feature Wall, Roam and Petite and Bliss 2026), plus Hawkesbury Now 2026 and the National Bird Week exhibition, both in October 2026. My work now sits in private collections across Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the UK, which still amazes me.

My studio practice is exploratory rather than fixed to one style - some paintings are carefully observed, others loose and experimental, depending on my mood. I'd rather keep looking closely and responding honestly to what I see than lock into a signature look. Every painting teaches me something for the next one.

For now, I'm happy following my curiosity from my Kurrajong studio, painting birds, still life, landscapes and people along the way.
