Every year, good friends, their families and mine return to Boomerang Beach on the mid North Coast of NSW. It’s a ritual of sun, salt water, laughter and the kind of friendship that gathers history as the years pass. Boomie 2046 looks ahead with affection and a little humour. I hope that twenty years from now we will still be making that annual pilgrimage, although by then we may be relying on one another for more than conversation and company — perhaps helping each other stay upright in the surf. At its heart, this small painting is about enduring friendship: growing older together, showing up year after year, and knowing there will always be a steadying hand beside you when you need one.
